The magic of the air fryer lies in its ability to create a crispy outer layer while keeping the inside soft and flavorful. The air fryer’s rapid circulation of hot air ensures that your French bread pizza bakes evenly.
The mouthwatering aroma that will fill your kitchen will have you counting the minutes until it’s done. Just remember that piping-hot pizza is like molten lava to the roof of your mouth so allow it to cool for a few minutes before you jump in.
Ingredients You Need
There are two ways to make this pizza. You can start with individual ingredients and make your own pizza or you can buy frozen French Bread pizza and just cook it in the air fryer. No matter which method you choose, you can find the instructions here.
For homemade:
- Small French bread loaf – A loaf of French bread can be cut into any size pizza you want.
- Pizza sauce – Use your favorite pizza sauce
- Mozzarella cheese – You can use pre-shredded mozzarella cheese or slices of fresh mozzarella.
- Toppings – I usually just use pepperoni, but you can top your pizza with anything you like.
OR
Frozen French bread pizza – Go for any type or brand you like, so long as it fits in your air fryer basket. They usually come with 2 pizzas in a box and both will fit in anything bigger than a 3-quart air fryer.
I have made so many different brands of frozen pizza in the air fryer. They definitely do not cook all the same. So you really can’t use this recipe as a “be all end all” for pizza. You have to be prepared to adjust the temperature and time setting to fit your pizza.
There are a few things to be aware of. Watch out for the cheese on top, as it can burn easily. Make sure the middle of the pizza is cooked thoroughly and not still frozen. Also, be mindful of the crust getting too crispy or overdone.
Equipment Information
- Air fryer: I use this 4-quart basket-style air fryer. It’s large enough to fit a meal for 4-6. But some things need more space in the air fryer basket, so they cook evenly.
- Kitchen tongs: It’s very easy to remove food from your air fryer with kitchen tongs. I use these kitchen tongs that are silicon coated so they don’t scratch the interior.
How to Make Frozen French Bread Pizza
Place the pizza directly in the air fryer basket with no parchment paper or tin foil under it. Avoid them because they can prevent the crust from getting cooked through and crunchy. If you are cooking both at the same time make sure there is room between each one for the air to circulate.
Cook at 370°F for 11 minutes. After 11 minutes, check the pizza for doneness. Continue cooking for 1-2 minutes at a time until it’s cooked to your preference.
I like to check on the pizzas half way through cooking. You don’t need to shake the basket or flip them but you can see how well the pizza is cooking. If it looks like the cheese is starting to brown too early you may want to lower the temperature 10-20 degrees.
You might have to worry about toppings flying around in the air fryer. If it will be a problem, you’ll know after the first minute or so – so take a quick peek. If the pepperoni has flown off, you can secure it down with tooth picks.
How to Make Homemade Pizza
For the homemade version, cut your French bread into whatever sizes you like. Spread on the pizza sauce, top with cheese, and your favorite toppings.
Cook on 370°F for 11 minutes.
I have found 11 minutes to be the perfect amount of time for French bread pizza in my air fryer. The crust is cooked through and crispy, and the toppings are melted and getting a little crisp, but not burned or overdone.
However, every air fryer is a bit different, as is every frozen pizza you might bake. For these reasons, you may have to adjust the cooking time and temperature slightly to achieve your desired results.
Why Use an Air Fryer
An air fryer is an incredibly easy way to cook just about anything. You place the food in a fryer-style basket and hot air rapidly circulates all around the food, making the food crisp – much like deep-frying, but without the oil. You can cook anything you’d make in the oven.

Notes for Best Outcome
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- You should not thaw French bread pizza before cooking it. Cook it from frozen.
- Make sure you remove all of the packaging before putting it in the air fryer.
- There is no need to preheat your air fryer. If you do, the cook time might be shortened.
- Don’t set the pizza on anything – just directly on the basket.
- If your toppings seem to be cooking too fast, you can spray the top lightly with cooking spray, which will prevent the toppings from scorching.
Reheating Frozen Pizza in the Air Fryer
I am a firm believer that the best way to reheat pizza – whether frozen or refrigerated – is in the air fryer. It helps get a crispy crust again without overheating it.
To reheat refrigerated pizza in the air fryer, cook on 350° F for 4-5 minutes.
To reheat a frozen pizza in the air fryer, follow the exact same instructions in the recipe card below. It will take about 11 minutes in a 370° F air fryer.
