Air Fryer Spring Rolls are a tasty snack or appetizer filled with chicken, garlic, vibrant vegetables, and rice vermicelli, then air fried to get a perfectly crispy outer shell.
Spring Rolls are one of my favorite appetizers. They do take a bit of effort to make, but they’re so much better homemade than bought, in my opinion. Give them a try. You’re going to love how crispy and perfect they get in the air fryer.
Why You’ll Love It
- Easy to Make: Notice I didn’t say quick to make. But they are EASY. All it takes is a few straightforward steps to create a flavorful filling and the air fryer creates the perfect crispy exterior.
- Optional Fillings: You can sort of pick and choose what you want in the filling. If you want vegetarian, just leave our the chicken. Don’t like garlic – that’s fine too.
- Easy to Eat and Share: Since these are individual portions, they’re great for buffets, potlucks, and serving for finger food at a party.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- Cooking Oil – You’ll need some oil to sauté the filling. Then I use a spray cooking oil to coat the outside of the wrappers to get them crispy. It’s not strictly necessary, but will create a nicer shell.
- Ground Chicken – You can also use shredded chicken, but ground is easier. Leave it out to make them vegetarian.
- Garlic – Always use fresh garlic for the best flavor. You can also sub with powdered garlic, if necessary.
- Green Onions – Finely chopped.
- Carrot – Finely chopped.
- Sugar – Regular granulated sugar works well.
- Fish Sauce – Find fish sauce in the international or Asian foods section of your grocery store.
- Oyster Sauce – Oyster sauce is typically located in the Asian foods section.
- Vermicelli Noodles– Cook according to package instructions and drain.
- Water – This is to seal the spring rolls after you’ve rolled them.
- Spring Roll Wrappers – Available in the refrigerated section of the produce aisle or in the frozen foods section. Make sure to use the type suitable for frying. If you are adventurous you can try making your own with this recipe.
- Sweet Chilli Sauce – For dipping.
Equipment Information
- Air fryer: I use this 4-quart basket-style air fryer. It’s large enough to fit a meal for 4-6. But some things need more space in the air fryer basket, so they cook evenly.
- Kitchen tongs: It’s very easy to remove food from your air fryer with kitchen tongs. I use these kitchen tongs that are silicon coated so they don’t scratch the interior.
Helpful Tips
- When buying spring roll wrappers, make sure they are suitable for frying. Some are specifically labeled as such, and using the wrong type may result in a different texture.
- Keep the spring roll wrappers covered with a damp towel as you work. This prevents them from drying out, making them easier to handle and less prone to tearing.
- Avoid overstuffing the spring rolls.
- Give the spring rolls some space in the air fryer basket to allow proper air circulation.
- If it’s your first time making spring rolls, don’t be discouraged if the first one or two aren’t perfect.
How to Make Air Fryer Spring Rolls
Step 1: Make the filling
Start by heating cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook for about 5 minutes until it’s nearly done. Then, add the minced garlic to the pan.
Next, add the green onions, carrot, sugar, fish sauce, and oyster sauce to the pan. Stir and cook for one minute. Then, add the rice noodles and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Once done, remove the pan from the heat.
Step 2: Assemble the Spring Rolls
Now, it’s time to assemble the spring rolls. Arrange a wrapper with one point facing you. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the filling onto the center of the wrapper. Fold the left corner over the filling, followed by the right corner. Then, fold the corner facing you over the top of the filling. Brush some water onto the remaining edges and finish rolling tightly.
Step 3: Air Fry
Place the assembled spring rolls into the air fryer basket, seam-side down, and spray them with cooking oil. Cook at 380°F (195°C) for 8 minutes, flipping and spraying halfway through cooking, until the spring rolls are crisp and golden brown on all sides.
Once the spring rolls are ready, serve them with sweet chili sauce for a delightful and flavorful treat. Enjoy!
Alternatives & Substitutes
You can really put anything into a spring roll that you like. You don’t have to follow our recipe ingredients to a T. Here are a few changes you can make to mix things up a bit:
- Use eggroll wrappers instead of spring roll wrappers.
- Replace the vermicelli with shredded cabbage
- Make them vegetarian by leaving out the ground chicken.
How to Store & Reheat: Quick Tips
Storage
Refrigeration: Store any leftover spring rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Properly stored, they can stay fresh for up to 2-3 days.
Moisture can affect the crispiness of the spring rolls. To combat this, place a paper towel in the container to absorb any excess moisture.
Reheating
Air Fryer: For the best results, reheat the spring rolls in the air fryer at 350°F for about 5-7 minutes. This restores their crispiness and ensures a delightful texture.
Oven: You can reheat these in the oven, if you need to. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Then cook the spring rolls on a baking sheet for about 10 minutes.
Questions About the Recipe
Can I use a different protein in the filling?
Absolutely! Ground pork, shrimp, or tofu are excellent alternatives. Adjust cooking times accordingly based on the protein you choose. You an also make them vegetarian if you like. I usually replace the chicken with cabbage.
How do I prevent spring roll wrappers from tearing?
Keep the wrappers covered with a damp towel while working to prevent drying, and be gentle when handling them. If a tear occurs, use a bit of water to “glue” it back together.
My spring rolls are crispy. What went wrong?
You need to spray the spring rolls well on both sides with cooking oil, or brush them with cooking oil if you don’t have a sprayer. The oil is what makes them crisp up while air fryer. You also need to make sure they have enough space between to get crispy.
