Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 pound (454 g) boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 teaspoon (2 g) chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon (2 g) ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon (3 g) garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (1 g) paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 g) salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon (0.5 g) black pepper
  • 12 8” flour tortillas
  • 1 cup (112 g) shredded cheese such as cheddar or Monterey Jack
  • Cooking spray or oil for brushing

Instructions

  • Place the chicken breasts in the air fryer basket. Cook at 380°F (190°C) for 12-15 mins, until the chicken reaches 165°F (75°C) internal temperature. Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let cool for a few mins until it can be shredded with two forks.
  • In a bowl, combine the shredded chicken with chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to ensure the chicken is evenly seasoned.
  • Warm the tortillas in the microwave for 15 seconds to make them pliable.
  • Place a spoonful of the seasoned chicken and a sprinkle of shredded cheese on each tortilla. Roll the tortillas tightly into cigar shapes. Place them seam-side-down on a plate.
  • Lightly spray or brush the flautas with cooking spray or oil to help them crisp up in the air fryer.
  • Arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not touching each other. You might need to cook them in batches.
  • Air fry the flautas on 375°F(190°C) for 8-10 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauces such as salsa, guacamole, or sour cream.

Notes

  • Heat the tortillas briefly on a skillet or the microwave to make them pliable for rolling.
  • Place the rolled flautas seam-side-down on a plate while you roll the rest so they don't come unrolled.
  • Depending on the size of your air fryer, you might need to cook the flautas in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  • Start cooking them with the seam-side-down.

All air fryers have different wattage and may cook at different rates. You may need to adjust the time or temp for the best results.
